Renting an apartment in Skopje: viewing checklist
Compare apartments using the monthly total, location and condition, not the advertised rent alone.
Clarify the monthly total
Before arranging a viewing, ask whether the price is monthly rent and which currency applies. List the deposit, any stated fees, utilities and shared-building costs separately. Ask what is included and what varies with use. Keep unanswered costs visible rather than treating them as zero.
Check daily life at the location
Confirm the neighbourhood and exact meeting place. During the viewing, compare the layout and condition with the photographs. Check daylight, noise, heating, ventilation, water and the included appliances with permission. Consider the route you actually use to work or study, rather than distance on a map alone.
Record the handover details
Ask which furniture and appliances remain, when the apartment is available and who handles reported maintenance problems. Record agreed items and visible damage before moving in. Keep copies of the listing and written arrangements. Resolve unclear terms before committing; this checklist does not establish tenancy rights or replace a contract review.
