Writing a clear request for a local service
Help a service provider understand the task with a clear result, useful context and a practical time window.
Describe the result you need
Start with what should be different when the work is finished. “Assemble a two-door wardrobe from its unopened flat-pack” is more useful than “Need help at home.” Include quantities, approximate dimensions and the relevant model if you know it. Separate essential work from optional additions so providers can explain what their quote covers.
Share enough context without exposing private details
State the city, whether materials are already available and access constraints such as stairs or parking. Add your own photographs of the work area after removing faces, personal documents and address labels. A public request does not need your full address, passwords or door code. Arrange exact access details privately with the provider you choose.
Set expectations before accepting a quote
Give a preferred time window and say whether it is flexible. If you share a budget, label it as your budget rather than an agreed price. Ask providers to describe the included work, materials, travel and anything they must inspect first. For example, a cabinet assembly quote should clarify packaging removal and wall fixing separately. Record changes before the work begins.
Your viewing checklist
- Required result and optional work are separated.
- City, useful photos and access limits are provided.
- Timing, budget and quote inclusions are clear.
