Used phone battery and charging: what to ask and test
A short viewing cannot predict a full day of battery life. Combine the seller’s usage account with simple charging and condition checks.
Ask about a normal day
Ask when the phone was last charged, what the seller normally uses it for and whether the battery has been replaced. Gaming, navigation and calls place different demands on a device. Ask for any repair documentation they still have. Treat a claimed number of hours as the seller’s experience, not a guaranteed result for your own use.
Use a suitable charger
With permission, connect a compatible cable and charger and observe whether charging remains stable while the phone rests on a table. Check for visible cable damage or a loose connection without forcing the plug. A charging symbol only confirms that charging was detected; it does not prove the battery’s capacity or certify a charger’s quality.
Record uncertainty in your decision
Where the device provides battery information, inspect it together with the seller rather than relying on an old screenshot. If the case is separating, the battery appears swollen or there is unusual damage, stop the test and ask for professional inspection. Obtain a model-specific service quote before treating a possible battery replacement as inexpensive.
