Measure the item and the access route

For bulky items, confirm height, width, depth and any removable parts. Discuss stairs, lift access and the space needed to carry it without exposing a private address publicly. The buyer should check vehicle space and arrange suitable help. Do not assume furniture can be dismantled safely; confirm its construction and any required instructions first.

Agree inspection before packing

List included cables, keys, fittings and accessories in the conversation. Decide which functions can reasonably be demonstrated at collection and which cannot. Keep the item accessible for the agreed inspection before protective packing. Photograph its current condition with permission and keep small parts together in a labelled bag.

Finish the handover details

For devices holding personal data, the owner should back up and remove their information using the manufacturer’s transfer instructions.
