Identify the configuration privately
Check the model information, chip or processor, memory and storage on the device with the owner’s permission. Similar cases can contain different configurations. Compare the charger and cable with the model’s requirements. Avoid publishing full serial numbers or photographs of personal account information in a public listing.
Use Apple’s transfer instructions
The seller should back up their own data and follow Apple’s instructions for selling a Mac. Available erase methods depend on the Mac and installed software. Do not improvise by deleting a few folders or share account passwords. Agree enough time to confirm that setup for a new owner can proceed without the previous owner’s credentials.
Document condition and restrictions
Try the keyboard, trackpad, screen, sound and ports you need. Ask whether the device belongs to a business or school and whether any management restriction remains. A seller must resolve ownership and management through the authorised organisation, not a bypass service. List included accessories, repairs and untested functions in the conversation.
