How to inspect a used game controller
Test sticks, buttons and connections in a permitted game or official settings screen, and record what the short test cannot establish.
Check model and physical condition
Confirm the exact controller model and the console or computer you intend to use. Inspect the sticks, triggers, grips and charging port for damage or missing parts. Ask about previous repairs and replacement sticks. Similar-looking third-party accessories may offer different functions; verify compatibility instead of relying on appearance.
Try movement and every needed input
In a compatible game or official input screen, leave the sticks untouched and observe any unintended movement. Move each stick slowly through its range, then try the direction pad, buttons and triggers. One game’s settings can affect the result, so avoid claiming a complete diagnosis from a single scene. Ask the owner before changing calibration or sensitivity.
Test the included connection method
Try wireless pairing and the cable connection you plan to use where the model supports them. Test vibration and audio only if those features are present and relevant. Ask about battery behaviour during ordinary play. A short session cannot prove full battery life or rule out intermittent faults; record that limitation alongside any agreed return arrangement.
